Ladakh: way to Shangri-la -

 13 Days / 12 Nights 

This tour takes you to the india's most beautiful places like in Likir you will visit at Phyang monastery who overlook its peaceful valley. Then visit to Leh for the climb to Khardung - La pass that is said, is the highest road pass in the world . At Sumur we will proceed to Diskit to visit its Gompa, the biggest and oldest monastery in the Nubra valley. Then in Delhi visit Lotus temple, Qutub minar.

Tour Itinerary

Day 01

Departure from Italy with a flight to Delhi. On arrival you will be met by a Surya representative that will assist and will lead to your hotel. Overnight.

Day 02


The visit to the country's capital will include the Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi's place of cremation), Chandni Chowk bazar, the Jama Masjid mosque (the largest in India: it can contain more than 25,000 people), the Gate of India, the Presidential Palace and Government buildings (from outside), the huge Humayun tomb and the Qutub Minar complex. Dinner and overnight.

Day 03

Delhi - Leh

The flight at dawn, towards Ladakh, will cross the wild scenery of fascinating snow-capped peaks of the Himalaya’s range. Upon arrival in Leh (3500mt), transfer to hotel. Time to take a walk thru bazar area and rest to better favor a good acclimatization. Dinner and overnight.

Day 04

Leh - Thiksey - Chemrey - Hemis - Leh
During this day the visit include some of the most spectacular monasteries east of Leh. The monastery of Thikse dominates with its imposing size the Indus valley. From the roof you can enjoy sweeping views and the frescoes and paintings on the walls are remarkable. We will proceed with the visit to the monastery of Chemrey in an extremely scenic scenary in the midst of farmland on the edge of a barren valley. The day ends with a visit at Hemis monastery, famous for its annual summer festival. Along the way, you can also admire the monastery of Stakna overlooking a bend of the river Indus. Dinner and overnight.

Day 05

Leh- Phyang - Likir

Morning visit at Phyang monastery who overlook its peaceful valley above barley crops. The road then rises, running alongside mountain striated by the time overlooking the Indus River which will merge with those of Zangskar. Continuation of the visit to the rural peaceful oasis of Likir, dominated by its spectacular monastery and guarded by the giant golden statue of Maitreya (23m). A little time is at disposal for little walks in the late afternoon among the fields admiring the wild scenery. Dinner and overnight.

Day 06

Likir - Rizong - Lamayuru

Today, shortly after departure, we will leave the Indus valley and continue for approximately 6km in a narrow gorge carved from the rocks to reach the amphitheater where stands the Ridzong monastery. Nice views from serene rooftop terraces. After the dusty village of Khalsi, the road rises slightly and leads to the valley of the moon where the rocks have strange limestone formations. This valley is the introduction to what is perhaps the most spectacular of the monasteries of Ladakh. The Yungdrung Gompa of Lamayuru is spectacular from anywhere you look at the backdrop of rugged mountains to crown him. Sleeping here will give the chance to observe the monastery with the best light at sunset and morning. Dinner and overnight.

Day 07

Lamayuru - Alchi - Leh

Departure back to Leh. On the way visit at Alchi monastery, located on the river Indu’s shores, famous for the old paintings in pretty good shape that dates back to 11th century. Return at Leh. Dinner and overnight.

Day 08

Leh – Khardung-La - Nubra Valley - Sumur

Early in the morning we will leave Leh for the climb to Khardung-La pass that is said, is the highest road pass in the world (5600mt). As you ascend the views become widen extending to the edged with snow mountains of Leh. Once reached the Khardung-La, lots of prayer flags, a simple bar where to drink a hot tea and take the usual witness photos. On the way down, the Nubra valley starts to reveal itself only after passing the green plots of the village of Khardung. Even here, on the background of the large bed of the Shyok river, wild snow-capped mountains. Dinner and overnight at the fixed tented camp at the quiet blooming oasis of Sumur.

Day 09

Sumur - Hunder - Diskit

After a peaceful short morning walk at Sumur we will proceed to Diskit to visit its Gompa, the biggest and oldest monastery in the Nubra valley. Its location is superb and the views from the roof on the Shyok valley are magnificent. Alongside the monastery has been recently built a large statue of Maitreya Buddha. A few miles beyond Diskit is located the peaceful village of Hunder in a valley characterized by undulating stretch of sand dunes crossed by peaceful Bactrian camels. Dinner and overnight at Diskit.

Day 10

Diskit – Khardung - La - Leh

Return towards Leh retracing our steps towards Khardung-La pass. Before reaching Leh we will stop for a look at the suggestive Tsemo fort, who dominates Leh. Once back to the city free time for personal activities in bazar area. Dinner and overnight.

Day 11


The last day in Ladakh is for the visit of Leh and will include the Leh Palace, the Old town, the Jami masjid and the ascent to the white Shanti stupa of Changspa. In the afternoon visit of a typical ladakhi village in the Leh valley sipping excellent chai with villagers. Dinner and overnight.

Day 12

Leh - Delhi

Early morning flight to Delhi. On arrival check-in at hotel and visit at the impressive Akshardham Temple complex and to the Bahá'í House of Worship popularly known as the Lotus Temple due to its flowerlike shape. Free time at disposal for shopping. Overnight.

Day 13

Delhi – USA

Transfer to airport for the flight back to USA .
