Travelling by train is a perfect way of meeting people and getting new uninterrupted sensations: from the vibrant energy of the capital Delhi, to the sacred Haridwar, to Rishikesh and its atmosphere, along the Gange. Jaipur the pink town, the magic red stones of Fatehpur Sikri, the charming Taj Mahal and the islamic tombs of Lucknow. The mystic sunrise on the banks of the Gange in Varanasi, and in Darjeeling facing the Himalaya. Finally Kolkata, another indian metropolis which is the incredible setting of the lively, endless daily festival of human life.


Tour Itinerary

Day 01

USA – DELHI
On arrival at Delhi airport, meeting with a representative of Surya Reisedienst and transfer to hotel. Overnight.

Day 02

DELHI

The visit of Delhi includes the Raj Ghat memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, the Jama Masjid mosque (the biggest mosque of India, which can accommodate more than 25.000 believers), the Chandni Chowk market, the Gate of India, the government buildings (from the outside), the Qutb Minar and the Humayun’s tomb. Dinner and overnight.

Day 03

DELHI – (Dehradun Shtbdi 06:50/11:25) - HARIDWAR

In the early morning, transfer to the railway station to catch the train to Haridwar. The sacred city of Haridwar, where every twelve years the Kumbha Mela ceremony is celebrated, is studded by temples, ashram and dharamsalas (pilgrims rest houses). To bathe in the Gange’s stream at the Har-ki-Pairi Ghat is the first will of every Hindu pilgrim because in this special place the river can wash away all the sins. Afternoon dedicated to the discovery of the site and its atmosphere, while waiting for the incredible ceremony of the evening aarti. Dinner and overnight.

Day 04

HARIDWAR - RISHIKESH– HARIDWAR (Hw Ajj Mela Spl - 18:40/06:40 MTWT) - JAIPUR
We leave Haridwar for the day visit of Rishikesh (21km), perfectly located on the banks of the Gange. The town houses many yoga and meditation schools. We will wander around the lively streets of the town, crossing the iron suspension bridge of Lakshman Jhula and enjoying the surrounding atmosphere. We will be back in Haridwar in the afternoon. Dinner and transfer to the railway station to catch the night train to Jaipur.

Day 05

JAIPUR

Arrival in Jaipur, accommodation in the hotel and transfer to Amber, where we will reach the spectacular Amber Fort in the Aravalli Hills on the back of an elephant. The fort is a stunning sample of Rajput architecture, clinging to a cliff and surrounded by a 9km long perimeter fence. Afterwards, visit of Jaipur, including the Hawa Mahal (the Palace of Winds) and the astronomical observatory of Jai Singh. Dinner and overnight.

Day 06

JAIPUR – ABHANERI – FATEHPUR SIKRI – AGRA (260km – 6h)

Drive to Agra (260km – 6h) and visits along the way to the Abanheri Chand Baori stepwell and to the fabulous red sandstone monumental city of Fatehpur Sikri. Arrival in Agra in the evening. Dinner and overnight.

Day 07

AGRA (No Friday)

In the early morning, visit to the Taj Mahal, built with white marble and gems for the mughal emperor Shah Jahan, who designed it to be the mausoleum of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. We will then visit the Red Fort, overlooking the Taj Mahal, where the same emperor Shah Jahan was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb until death. Both sites are marvellous, and the Taj Mahal is considered to be one of the wonders of the world. Afterwards we will visit the elegant mausoleum of Itmad-Ud-Daulah, dating back to the 16th century. Free time to wander around the lively shops of Sadar bazaar. Dinner and overnight.

Day 08

AGRA – TUNDLA Jn - (Lko Swran Shtbd – 08:47/12:30) - LUCKNOW

Transfer to the railway station of Tundla to catch the train to Lucknow; arrival, accommodation in hotel and visit to the Bara and Chota Imambara tombs and to the clock tower. A pleasant walk around the streets of the lively bazaar will make the visit of this interesting town complete. Dinner and overnight.

Day 09

LUCKNOW – (JatBsb S Fast 08:05/13:00) - VARANASI

Early morning transfer to the railway station to catch the train to Varanasi. Arrival, accommodation in hotel and, in the late afternoon, visit to Dashashwamedh Ghat to see the Ganga “Aarti”. It is a ceremony during which a flaming light is offered to divinities and it is celebrated at sunset by five priests who move harmoniously and offer to the goddess Ganga incense, camphor, flowers and votive lamps. Thousands of bright lamps are immersed in the sacred waters of the Gange and offer a divine show in the sunset light. Dinner and overnight.

Day 10

Varanasi – esc. Sarnath – treno notturno per JALPAIGURI (22:25/11:45 - must be on WED/THU/SUN)

At sunrise, boat excursion on the Gange, to admire the harmony and complexity of the morning rituals. The town is the most sacred site of the whole India and it is a great attraction for pilgrims and tourists. As it is located on the western bank of the river, the believers think that this place allows the moksha, the liberation from samsara and the suffering involved in being subject to the cycle of death and reincarnation. Varanasi is at its best at sunrise and sunset, when the songs of the pilgrims blow gently in the air and the sacred lamps float in the river’s flood. In the afternoon, excursion to Sarnath (9km), where the Buddha first preach his message. Dinner and transfer to the railway station to catch the night train to Darjeeling.

Day 11

NEW JALPAIGURI - DARJEELING (70km – 2h)

Arrival in New Jalpaiguri in the late morning, immediate transfer by car to Darjeeling (75km – 2h), which is located at foot of Himalayan range and bright green tea plantations. In the afternoon, visit to the picturesque Bhutia Busty Gompa monastery and to the Tibetan camp. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 12

DARJEELING – toy train to Kurseong – then down to NEW JALPAIGURI and take (Uttar Banga Exp 20:30/08:15 Seldah Kolkata)

Early morning excursion to the Tiger hill, to admire the sunrise on the Kanchendzonga, the third mountain of the world with its 8600m of height; afterwards visit to the monastery of Ghoom (Yigacholing). We will go back to Darjeeling by the famous Toy train, the little steam train. Free time to stroll around the local bazaar. In the afternoon, we will proceed by car to New Jalpaiguri where, after dinner, we will catch the night train to Kolkata.

Day 13

arrival at KOLKATA

On arrival, accommodation in hotel and visit to the city of joy, including the interesting Victoria Memorial Hall, Saint Paul cathedral, the colonial quarters (BBD Bagh area, once Dalhousie Square), the Old Court House Street and Fort Williams and the colourful flower market of Mullik Ghat, from which we will admire the famous Howrah bridge on the Hoogly river, which is considered to be the most busy bridge in the world. Dinner and overnight.

Day 14

KOLKATA – DELHI (Air India flight 10:10/12:30)

Transfer to the airport to catch the flight to Delhi. Arrival, accommodation in hotel; free afternoon. Dinner and overnight.

Day 15

DELHI – USA

Transfer to Delhi International airport in time for your onward flight to usa .
